Acoustic Accessories

Acoustical treatments are available to reduce noise breakout from the fan itself, and the downstream ducting. These are custom designed using the detailed noise information avaialble for each fan anywhere in their operating range. ARMATEC uses specialist noise consultants to verify designs to meet specific noise targets.

Noise can be a result of fan inefficiency. Selecting the most efficient fan for the duty is one way of minimising noise. Blade passage frequency (the frequency at which an impellor blade passes the discharge) can create a "drone" that can be transmitted for long distances.

There are four main ways to minimise noise breakout:

Housing Insulation

This can be incorporated into the fan at time of manufacture and is the lowest cost method of reducing noise breakout from within the fan assembly. Closed cell foam is applied to the fan housing, and extra layers of fibreglass are applied over it.

Silencers

Custom designed silencers can be incorporated into the duct just downstream of the fan. This reduces noise breakout from the duct, and reduces the transmission of noise along the outlet duct.

Downstream Equipment

An effective way of avoiding noise issues is to place equipment after the fan, and this equipment then acts as a silencer. Examples of this are packed bed scrubbers, and carbon adsorber beds.

Acoustic Enclosures

Custom designed enclosures can be supplied to fit over the fan, and reduce the fan breakout noise. Each enclosure is designed to meet required targets.
