In New Zealand, The Resource Management Act puts strong requirements on companies to minimise their air discharges. Air pollution control can require a considerable investment in both capital plant and ongoing running costs, both of which can affect the overall viability of a companies operation. Therefore the choice of air pollution control technology must be taken with due care. 

While there are air pollution control projects that are identical, and an equipment supplier is able to use past experience to design further projects, there are many instances where site conditions are unique or are not properly understood. This is when pilot plant work is most desirable, and even essential. Pilot plant work can provide a win-win situation for all parties; the buyer of the equipment, the supplier of the equipment, and the environment.

A range of pilot plant equipment for use in air pollution control projects is offered for rental by Armatec. Initial pilot plant testing offers many benefits to all parties involved by allowing “Try Before You Buy”. Armatec also offers ancillary equipment such as ventilation fans, variable speed controls and an automatic chemical dosing system. Units can also be hired for longer periods as required.

Pilot Plants for Biological Scrubbers

Armatec Environmental's pilot plant biological scrubber has been installed at a number of sites including WWTPs, to demonstrate the technology and gain design data.
The pilot plant handles an airflow rate of about 0.2 m3/s. A portable carbon bed polisher adsorber is used after the biological scrubber to adsorb other odours. The biological scrubber has removed more than 98% of the inlet hydrogen sulphide concentrations in all trials done.
